Below are several mini-articles on how to go about de-cluttering your space using the ancient art of Feng Shui. . . Feng Shui Rules to Remember top 1. Make Feng Shui changes in your home with Intention (unconscious changes will not be as effective). 2. Make your home safe and comfortable. 3. No clutter behind any door. 4. Get rid of dead plants, dusty silk plants, or old decrepit dried flowers. 5. Place cactus plants only in Fame/Reputation area. 6. Do not store anything under the bed. 7. Mirrors should be hung so the owners of the space can see their complete head. 8. Get rid of cracked, distorted, or divided mirrors. 9. Do not put your bed in the "Chinese death position," ie, feet in line with the door. 10. Keep the toilet lid down and the bathroom door shut at all times. top Move 27 Things & Change Your Life One of the beliefs of Feng Shui is that you can move 27 things in your space and change your life. One of the easiest ways to move (at least) 27 things in your home is to take all of the decorative items you have sitting on tables in your living room, bedroom, family room, etc. and place them all on your dining room table. This can include flower arrangements, candles, statues, decorative boxes, polished stones, framed pictures and photos, lamps, or anything you have as decoration in your home. Even if you decide that you want the items back in the same room they came from, rearrange them so that the candle, flower arrangement, and lamp that all were on a dresser in your bedroom are now in a different place on the dresser. Tip: The 27 things that you move should be those that have been in their current position for at least three months or longer, and as you move them you will need to intentionally move the item to a spot in the Bagua that will enhance that area of the Bagua.top Feng Shui and Clutter In Feng Shui, we believe that as you free yourself from unwanted, unneeded possessions; you open up a place for something better in your life. We are all familiar with the type of clutter that is formed by piles of paper, laundry baskets full of clean or dirty clothes that need attended to, closets and cupboards that need cleaned out, and counters full of objects we never use. We may not consider other things as clutter. Items such as: > The ugly vase your mother gave you on your last birthday: every time you look at it you think, "Why doesn't mom understand my tastes; this vase does not fit into my home at all." > The statue of two people embracing that your ex-lover gave you on your one year anniversary: when you look at it you think how much you dislike it but how expensive it was. > The treadmill in your bedroom which you never have time to use: every time you see it, you feel guilty because you are not using it, and because you are using it as a place to drape your clothes when you take them off. . . in fact, you can barely tell there is a treadmill under that pile of clothes! > The furniture in your bedroom which you were able to keep in the divorce: It was so expensive, and it still looks pretty good (despite the fact that after an argument your ex-wife threw the dresser and nightstands into the front yard and beat them with a hammer. She was sorry later and glued everything back together.) > The favorite jeans you wore before your last child was born. . . Are they a good reminder of where you want to be again? > The hobby supplies from that hobby you used to love to do so much: Someday soon you are going to get back to that and create such wonderful things! > The family china previously owned by your grandmother. Even though she was mean, you took the china anyway so that your sister wouldn't get it. What emotions are associated with this type of clutter? Sometimes it is a difficult task to rid yourself of the clutter that surrounds you all of these things have been part of your life and have a relationship with you. The mental aspect of decluttering can be an arduous task, but it is worth it. You will feel freer, lighter, and ready to move on to the next chapter of your life. As you rid your life of clutter, look at the item you are having difficulty getting rid of and ask yourself: > What do I feel when I look at this? > Is there someone else who could put this to better use? > Do I need this? If an item is a family heirloom but you do not want it anymore, then pass it on to another member of the family who will enjoy it. All of the furniture/ clothes/ dishes/ bedding/ artwork/ junk that you do not want to have in your life anymore can go to others who may appreciate their qualities. Not only will you be freeing yourself of the associations that are cluttering your mind and your life; you will be helping others by gifting these objects to them. Items that have significant value can be sold. We have the opportunity to surround ourselves with possessions that are alive with positive memories and with good Ch'i. When you become ruthless with your possessions, you will let go of things that do not enhance your life. You do not need to do this all at once; it is a process. As you change, what you are ready to let go of changes. If you are not totally ready to let go of something but know you need it out of your home, lend it to someone. As we clear our clutter, we open ourselves up to creativity and new beginnings. As an example, let's say you have never cleaned your kitchen. It is stacked high with dirty dishes, pots and pans, the counters are dirty and cluttered, the refrigerator is full of soured milk, rotten fruit and vegetables, moldy cheese. You cannot go into a kitchen like that and create a great meal. There is no space to be creative. Our lives reflect that, when they are filled with clutter. top Bio. . . Lynne grew up on a small farm in central Illinois and had the benefit of organic food before organic was popular. Not because her parents were against using fertilizers, insecticides, etc., but because they were so frugal that they simply rotated crops in the field and garden to ensure that the soil was not depleted, and they would have healthy plants. This frugality and the importance of place and environment, learned at an early age, continue to be central to Lynne's Feng Shui practice. She counsels clients not to buy anything new until they have examined what they have and determined if an item was placed in a different location in their home it would serve them better. Unlike many of the home improvement books and television shows, which rely on expensive make-overs, Lynne works with clients on the intent and the purposeful placement of existing furniture and artwork to enhance their homes and their lives. Lynne's practical and down-to-earth technique allows clients to take a step-by-step approach as they become more familiar with the philosophy and practices of Fung Shui. Lynne has been interested in Fung Shui for many years and formally studied with the Sheffield School of Feng Shui Interior Design, completing her certification in 2008. The Sheffield School is based on the Form School or Black Hat Sect of Feng Shui. Lynne has read widely and is versed in other forms of Fung Shui practice and can assist clients in understanding the different approaches to Fung Shui. Lynne lives outside Edwardsville, Illinois with her husband, a few cats and one dog. top Schedule of Fees top Full Home Consultation Fee $180.00 Discounted fee for workshop attendees (50%) $90.00 Sell Your Home $180.00 Discounted fee for workshop attendees (50%) $90.00 Purchase New Home (Fee Varies) (This fee will vary depending on how many homes are studied during a consultation.)
